Kodak Ektar 100

I have bought a few rolls of Kodak Ektar 100 135 film last week and I have heard from others that this film is offering the finest and smoothest grain. The photos really look so good with high contrast, vivid colors and fine details. I highly recommend using this negative film to take portraits as you can see from below photos the skin tone is very natural and nice. This set is taken with my favourite Nikon FM2 with 50mm/1.9 Retina lens.

Pre-wedding: Lucy & Ka Lok

Lucy and Ka Lok are going to get married by the end of next year. You do not have to know them for a long time to get to know what a sweet couple they are. In spite of this, Lucy did not want to take those traditional romantic photos. Instead she wanted to have photos that can convey a moody feel. This set was taken in some old village in Shek O with an overcast sky. I am so glad that Lucy was very satisfied with the outcome.

Poster for "西門記" - a play by 六樓后座劇團

I have the honour of being invited by the popular 六樓后座劇團 to shoot the poster for their coming new play in August called "西門記". For me this was quite an interesting project because I was just given a brief storyline and some keywords a few days before the day for taking photos. The story is about 3 young men who have some special encounters after they bought a suit.....it is encouraging in nature and so I wanted to take the photo on a rooftop to express the idea of freedom and pursuit of dreams. There is not much pain in looking for a suitable venue since the headquarter of 六樓后座劇團 is located on the top floor of an old building in Causeway Bay. Finally the photo was taken on their rooftop with the three protagonists lying on an abandoned sofa. They are professional actors and without their inspiration I would not be able to take this good picture with such a dramatic effect!

"Dreamer" - My First Photo Exhibition @ Fringe Club

Dreamer 夢悠
June 2-13, 2009
fotogalarie, Fringe Club
2 Lower Albert Road, Central, Hong Kong

June 6, 2009 is a BIG day for me because it is the grand opening of my debut photo exhibition. It was held at the fotogalarie of Fringe Club with a selection of 11 photos. They belong to my collection of smoke photos taken in 2008, my very first trial on digital art.

When I was young I was often alone by myself. Dreaming and drawing helped me pass the time. That is why I named my first exhibition "DREAMER". When I grew up I not only continue dreaming, but I also smoke to escape from the tedious life. I have been dazzled by the changeful and feminine nature of smokes and it has been a long time since I have the initiative to take pictures of smoke. Smoke is formless, colorless and cannot be grasped, yet I freeze them using my camera, add color and form to them and ultimately give them meanings. This symbolizes the pursuit of my dream - to become a professional photographer. A dream can only be realized when you go for it and now I have made my first step!

I will say this is too good to be true and I would like to send a million thanks to my GREAT team mates - Joyce, Smice and Simon, and all the friends and relatives who gave me so much support all the way!

May your dream also come true.....

Styling photos in Studio: for Bernice Ngor

This is Bernice's graduate assignment in her last year's make-up study in Poly University. It was a challenging experience since I need to plan the set up and lighting for 5 different make-up style. Although the girls are not professional models, I think Bernice is good at assigning the right person for each cast. They gave me much inspiration and the photos are greeted with great enthusiasm.

Remembering the good old days : Wedding of June

June is my secondary school classmate and I always treated her as my younger sister. I was so happy she invited me to be her chief photographer on her big day. As a memento, we went back to our school to take photos. June just looks great in her traditional Chinese wedding gown. The bridegroom and most 兄弟姊妹 are alumni and we all had a good time running around in our mother school!

Pre-wedding: Joey and Kuen

Joey and Kuen are newly married. Though they have already taken a few rounds of pre-wedding photos, they want me to help them to take another one with a completely different feel. Both of them appear a bit shy and uneasy at first but after warming up in the afternoon session under a bright sun, they are more at ease at night. The weather was really beautiful on that day and their sweetness melted all of us. I wish them happy ever after!

Pre-wedding: Scotty and Keli

I knew Scotty since teenage. She is, as always, an adorable girl. I am so happy she found her Mr. Right Keli. He looks so cool and dandyish yet he is actually a very shy boy. No doubt they are a perfect match and in this set of photos they proved themselves to be having a high potential of becoming good models. I chose to take this set in Central as the couple wanted to have some stylish and modern pre-wedding photos. It has been an enjoyable experience and I love the whole set of photos, especially the ones taken in the Man Mo Temple. To our surprise this set of photos become very popular among relatives and friends. I am looking forward to take photos with my best pair of model - Scotty and Keli - again.

Sunbeam passing through the ceiling merging with the smoke creates a very special atmosphere making these photos look similar to gangster's film posters.

I use a vintage color tone to match them with the red-brick building and the old-fashioned motorcycle.

Background is retouched to make it looks like water color painting.

Dai Pai Dong with steel gate is one of my favourite location for taking photos!

Simply love this....freezing a special moment...an interesting juxtaposition with the busy surroundings!

Spcial lighting skill is used for this on-stage dramatic effect.

Scotty resembles Audrey Hepburn so much in her solo photos...she is a star!
